I get so excited to write a historical piece about Boulder County because I know that I will always turn up something unexpected, whether it’s a detail about the naming of a place, an anecdote, or the roots of a crazy yet meaningful tradition. Whenever I’ve been researching a historical piece, I have always found myself touching on a work by Silvia Pettem, who I very quickly learned upon moving here is Boulder’s foremost historical writer and researcher.
